FAQ
1. What specific components constitute a complete solar power generation system?
The first component is the photovoltaic (PV) panel; the second is the inverter; and the third is the battery. These are the three primary core components.
2. What accessories are required to interconnect these three main components?
PV cables are needed to connect the PV panels to the inverter—or, alternatively, to connect the panels to a battery storage unit, which then connects to the inverter.
3. What are the characteristics of PV cables?
PV cables carry direct current (DC). They possess specific characteristics: they are capable of handling high voltages and are resistant to high temperatures. Since they are designed for outdoor use, their insulation layer is thicker and more durable than that of standard AC cables, making them less susceptible to corrosion.
Typically, one roll of red cable and one roll of black cable are used to represent the positive and negative terminals of the PV system, respectively.
4. What type of connectors are used for PV panels?
The accessories used to connect PV cables to PV panels are called MC4 connectors.
Each PV panel is equipped with a pair of MC4 connectors—one positive and one negative. These connectors are critically important because they serve as the vital link in the circuit; if the copper core within the connector is of poor quality, or if the connection is not sufficiently secure, it creates a significant safety hazard.
5. How is the electrical flow controlled?
We require a dedicated switch to control the electricity flowing from the PV panels.
This switch is known as a DC circuit breaker, and it is characterized by its ability to handle voltages of up to 500V.
When wiring the inverter, we can switch this breaker off, allowing us to perform the wiring work on the inverter in a de-energized state.
For future maintenance, the presence of this circuit breaker allows us to completely disconnect the power supply from the PV panels; this ensures that when we perform maintenance on the inverter or the overall system, we can do so safely without working on live circuits.
6. How many types of circuit breakers are there?
There are two types of circuit breakers: DC circuit breakers and AC circuit breakers.
AC circuit breakers are used to control the input and output terminals of the inverter.
Solar power generation systems often operate in conjunction with the utility grid.
When the inverter draws power from the utility grid, an AC circuit breaker is required at the input terminal to control the incoming grid supply.
Similarly, when the inverter supplies power to the electrical loads, an AC circuit breaker is required at the output terminal to control the power distribution to those loads.
When connecting the inverter to the battery—if the battery itself does not feature a built-in circuit breaker—an external AC circuit breaker must be installed at the battery terminal to regulate the power output.
7. Do solar panels require mounting brackets?
Our portable solar kits do not require mounting brackets; they can provide direct DC power for charging electronic devices such as mobile phones, iPads, and similar products.
However, our other solar panel models do require mounting brackets.
If the panels are to be installed on a flat concrete surface and require elevation, a specific type of mounting bracket is needed.
If the installation site is a tiled roof, a different bracket structure is required.
If the installation site is a metal-roofed structure, yet another specific type of bracket is necessary.
